State government immediately approves Ceria Scheme under RM20,000

SHAH ALAM, 29 Oct: The Selangor government will give immediate approval for projects under Rm20,000 for programmes under the Welfare State Flat Reparation Scheme (Ceria).

The Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement, Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that the improvement is to facilitate reparation work for flats and the comfort of residents.

He said that projects that cost less than RM20,000 do not need the preparation of tenders that take months.

“For instance, if the Joint Management Body (JMB) wants to create a rubbish hut, there is no need to wait long. Also for other small works like repairing drains, fences, walls and roads.

“Just send the application to the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) and they will visit the site. If qualified, LPHS will issue the Bill of Quantities (BQ),” he told Selangor Kini.

Iskandar said that the decision to carry out this improvement for the Ceria Scheme application was decided in a Building Management Stanco meeting recently.

However, he stressed, all Ceria Scheme applications need to go through the legitimate JMB and cannot be done individually or in other groups.

“Indeed, we have decided to provide a fast track approval for projects under Rm20,000. But the main requirement is that there has to be a JMB, otherwise, it cannot be done,” he said.

The Ceria Scheme is a cost sharing scheme between residents of low-cost flats and the state government in effort to brighten the surrounding area.

The state government will help pay for 80 percent of the work and the rest will be shouldered by the residents.

The scheme is also aimed to sow the feeling of capability in each resident in taking care and protecting the shared property for a long period of time.
