CM: State government refers to Sultan to solve Bible issue

SHAH ALAM, 4 Nov: The state government will refer the issue of the seizure of Malay-language Bibles to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to receive his consent towards settling the problem.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government has discussed with the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) regarding the issue.

“I have held talks to receive the views of the authority which MAIS and JAIS.

“After this, we will refer to the Sultan to receive his consent to solve this matter in a good and harmonious manner. Insya-Allah, this matter will be resolved in the near future,” he told the media yesterday.

He said this after speaking at the Selangorku Free of Dengue 2014 Action Plan Launch Ceremony and the Mega Gotong-Royong Programme: “Terjah and Destroy Aedes Selangor 2014′ Launch.

The issue of the seizure of the Malay-language Bibles has been going on for only a year during the administration of the former Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

In January, JAIS seized over 300 Malay-language Bibles from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) in Damansara, Petaling Jaya, in an operation by the agency.
