Extreme sports developed, youth health activities increased

PETALING JAYA, 1 Nov: It is hoped that the Selangor government will not miss out on developing extreme sports facilities in the state in conjunction with the development of other sports.

The Exco for Young Generation, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, said that extreme sports activities should be elevated because it covers identity development, education, economy and social community, especially the youth.

“Youth need to fill their time with healthy activities like extreme sports because it is a branch that is seen as being able to create healthy youth,” he said.

He said this when visiting the sports facility at the Rakan Muda Centre, Petaling Jaya Arena Complex, yesterday.

Also present was the Deputy Youth Director of the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS), Sayuti Basiron.

“Tonight, we have come to see one of the extreme sports facilities in Selangor and there is a need to upgrade the standards of this facility in line with current demand.

“I will bring this matter to the attention of the state government to ensure that this facility is protected and can be used as best possible,” he said.

During the visit, Amirudin managed to meet a group of skateboard, inline skating and BMX enthusiast there.

“I took the opportunity to chat with them just now. I understand that their activities are limited to the night time because there is no roof for them to take shelter from the heat and rain. So, I will work to get the roof they want.

“They have also asked for some provisions to change several design structures of the sports facility here to be more contemporary because the facilities available are out-dated,” he said.
