BN should immediately appoint a new Opposition Leader

BANDAR BARU BANGI, 12 Dec: The Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) needs to appoint a new Opposition Leader for the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) who will automatically hold the position as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this is to ensure that the concept of check and balance can be implemented in the democratic process in the state.

“They need to decide because the report has been passed by the Assembly’ the PAC Chairman must be the Opposition Leader.

“If it is true that Datuk Shamsuddin (Mohd Lias) resigned, they need to decide who is the Opposition Leader and the person will automatically be appointed as the Chairman of the PAC unless they do not want to appoint anyone as the Opposition Leader,” said Mohamed Azmin during the Chief Minister’s Fieldwork Programme in the District of Hulu Langat today.

Mohamed Azmin explained that this situation is the same as any State Assembly or the House of Representatives that has their respective Opposition Leaders.

Mohamed Azmin added that the opposition’s refusal to appoint a new leader shows disrespect towards the democratic process.
