SHAH ALAM, 7 Jan: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will launch the pilot project for the smartphone app, CleanMyCity, to submit complaints regarding the issue of public cleaning.

Citing the article from The Malaysian Insider, the app can also be accessed via the website to enable the public to send pictures of individuals illegally dumping garbage, potholes, fallen trees and other problems.

The app is an initiative of the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), which is working together with the MBPJ and the Selangor government.

C4 head, Cynthia Gabriel, reportedly said that MBPJ and C4 are still talking and thinking about ways to integrate the CleanMyCity complaints with the MBPJ online complaint system, e-complaint.

The aim is for the tool to be used by the public as key stakeholders in shaping and influencing government policy.

She said that the initiative is feasible given that MBPJ is facing problems of enforcement against illegal dumping.

The implementation of tyhe CleanMyCity app is considered practical and taken into account that most people have smartphones nowadays.

The Selangor executive councillor in charge of local councils Ean Yong Hian Wah is expected to launch the app this Friday, January 9.
