Anwar launches Syed Husein Ali’s book

SHAH ALAM, 5 Feb: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the book ‘Ethnic Relations in Malaysia: Harmony and Conflict’ (New Edition) at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) today.

Syed Husin Ali’s book was written on how the ethnic groups in this country have been manipulated since independence by Malaysian politicians for the sake of interests and political survival at the expense of its people.

In articles spanning more than three decades, collected for the first time here, he dissects the origins, fallacies and destructive nature of ethnic politics in Malaysia and examines the issue of class versus ethnicity or race.

In this latest edition, the author updated the book in terms of facts and events, and also included two other articles.

The book launching was attended by over 300 attendees, including the Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; the Director of Selangor Public Libraries (PPAS), Mastura Muhamad; and several Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

Syed Husin, in his speech, said that the reissuing of the book in the updated version is relevant to the current situation today.
