MDLK & factories cooperate to combat dengue

SHAH ALAM, 13 Feb: The Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) is cooperating with factories to clean up the industrial area in effort to overcome garbage pollution and Aedes mosquito breeding grounds in the district.

The MDKL Yang DiPertua, Mohd Azhar Mohamed Ali, said that MDKL has always intended to create a clean and safe environment, and also reduce the risk of pollution in industrial areas and prevent flooding.

“The effort to maintain cleanliness and conserve the environment does not only lay on the shoulders of MDKL, but all parties need to cooperate to achieve this noble goal,” he said in a statement.

The effort is being taken in line with the action plan to care for the quality of the environment under the MDKL Health and Local Agenda 21 Subcommittee.

In the gotong-royong, 600 Muraya Paniculata trees were also planted, in addition to waste collection and spraying flies, as well as throwing 500 M Mudballs in the monsoon drain to minimise the odour of the drain.

The programme was also joined by department and local agency employees, school students, villagers and factory workers.

“Through programmes like this, all parties can play a role in improving the quality of the environment, in addition to controlling the temperature of the earth and natural disasters, as well as curbing the spread of dengue and breeding of wild animals that can threaten lives,” he said.

IN other developments, MDKL sent 12 of its employees to participate in the Dengue Movement 3.0 in support of the state government’s effort to destroy the outbreak of dengue in Selangor.

“All the MDKL staff involved were given an assignment to clean the area and destroy places suspected to be breeding grounds for mosquito larvae,” he said.
