SHAH ALAM, 4 Feb: A special technical committee needs to be formed to review the need and implementation of the local authority elections.

The Exco for Local Government, Ean Yong Hian Wah, said that he will present the proposal to the state government in the near future.

“The establishment of this committee is needed to help the state government decide on a stance on this matter.

“We are still not sure of the details on who will make up the committee, but it is clear that it will involve those with knowledge and expertise in this field,” he told Selangor Kini.

He said this when commenting on DAP’s proposal to make Petaling Jaya the first location of local authority elections in Selangor.

Prior to this, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the issue of the local authority elections needs to be discussed in advance by the PR leadership to ensure that the implementation of a third vote can be the solution to problems faced.

The issue of local authority elections gained attention after PAS and DAP had differences of opinions regarding the issued when DAP wanted the elections to be returned.
