SUBANG JAYA, 12 Mar: The 3rd term of the 13th Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session will take place without an Opposition Leader from Barisan Nasional (BN).

DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that this was confirmed by the Selangor BN personally through a letter sent to her office recently.

“Our side had sent a letter asking for a name to be appointed as the DNS Opposition Leader. The Selangor BN wrote back stating that they do not wish to name the Opposition Leader at this time,” she said when asked by Selangor Kini about the issue.

She however said that the Selangor BN did not state any reasons regarding the rejection of the appointment of the post.

“Perhaps it is because they are reluctant because the Opposition Leader would automatically be appointed the Chairman of the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

“This is the first time in history the DNS does not have an Opposition Leader. In the past, when DAP only two Assemblymen, there was still an Opposition Leader, Datuk Theng Chang Khim,” she said.

She said that Datuk Shamsudin Lias’s position in the assembly is being maintained because he is the most senior Assemblyman from the opposition even though the Selangor BN did not appoint a Leader of the Opposition.
