Raw water source in Selangor, Langat 2 continued

SHAH ALAM, 14 Mar: The Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2) construction project will still continue even though the state government announced the cancellation of the master agreement on the water industry restructuring.

The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the Langat 2 project is necessary because it will be a source of raw water for Selangor in the future.

“This project is not directly related, that is why the Langat 2 project will continue as usual.

“Just that this project needs to go through the normal process such as the approval granting. Now, we are waiting for the developer to look into the conditions in terms of planning permission and the question of land,” he told Selangor Kini.

In the middle of this week, the Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, revealed that the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water wanted to acquire the land that houses the 26,000 kilometre water pipe and include it as an asset in the water concession agreement.

However, the state government did not agree with this proposal because it contradicts the principles and spirit of the agreement which was previously agreed upon.

Overall, the state government has RM14.9 billion in water assets without taking into account the value of land.
