Fomca: If concessionaires have gotten back returns, tolls should be abolished

SHAH ALAM, 21 Apr: The Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau tolls should be abolished if the concessionaires have obtained returns throughout their contract period.

The Deputy President of the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca), Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman, said that the move is necessary if they have gotten back their investment.

6.1

“Have the concessionaires received returns for all they have invested? If so, then the tolls should be abolished because this is fair,” he told Selangor Kini.

Mohd Yusof said that the agreement to continue a new contract can be done if what mentioned has not been achieved, but it would involve lower and reasonable tariff rates.

“However, is the extension period of 20 years reasonable or not? Or should it only be 10 years?

6.2

“We need to look at the appropriateness of the extension period,” he said.

He said that the federal government should re-examine the matter because 20 years is too long.

“The Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau issue is only maintenance. Unlike the North-South Expressway because there is the widening process,” he said.
