Earnings affected, we are kicked around like a ball

SHAH ALAM, 10 June: The actions of the authorities who are pushing around complaints and grievances of taxi drivers regarding the Uber application is very regrettable.

The Chairman of the Metered Taxi Driver’s Task Force (BBPTB), Amran Jan, said that the complaints at the Land Public Transport Department (SPAD) and the Malaysian Media Communications Commission (SKMM) are quiet.

He said that the flippant attitude takes light of the welfare and income of registered taxi drivers who are paying for permits and rent to the government.

“We went to SPAD and were sent to SKMM. When we were at SKMM, we were asked to refer to SPAD.

“This continued, making us like a ball being kicked here and there. Finally, we were defeated,” he told Selangor Kini.

Yesterday, about 100 taxi drivers held a peaceful rally in front of Parliament and submitted a memorandum to all members of Parliament in protest of the Uber app.

Commenting on the submission of the memorandum, Amran said that the move was the last resort for taxi drivers to get their rights.

“We believe that MPs will take this issue seriously and take the motion to band apps like UBER, Myteksi and others.

“If the effort to take it to Parliament still fails, we may send a memorandum to the attention of the Yang DiPertuan Agong,” he said.
