Najib is weak, foreign powers intervene on national issues

SHAH ALAM, 29 Sept: The issue of the statement by the China Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Hung Huikang, about the Red Shirt rally in Jalan Petaling is strange and shows the failure of the leadership of the Prime Minister, Najib Razak, leading to foreign powers intervening in domestic political issues.

The Keadilan Youth Movement Chief, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that the issue clearly demonstrates this country’s reputation, which at a time used to be a model country but now it has been tarnished.

“China, through its representative to Malaysia, seemingly gave a signal that they are ready to make a stand on the matters of other countries.

“There is a risk of a lack in good leaders in Malaysia and this can lead to more foreign intervention like this,” he said in a press statement.

However, Nik Nazmi said that Dr Huang’s actions may be over the limits that are appropriate for a diplomat.

Therefore, he said that he hopes that they should be ready to accept criticism from citizens around the world about various issues in China, including how they handle pro-democracy activists, the Uighur Muslim community and Tibetans.

“However, what is undeniable is that these things would not happen if Najib Razak and the government display a leadership that is good, principled and resolute in the Red Shirt rally case.

“Instead, what we are witnessing is that many leaders in the Umno administration issued contradictory and untrue statements, including the Prime Minister himself,” he said.

Nik Nazmi said that Malaysia should not take heart for criticism from outsiders, especially in terms of politics and human rights.

“Although the principle of “non-interference”, we often make a stand and provide opinions on international issues, such as the situation in Palestine.

“In addition, Malaysia is also among the first Commonwealth countries to criticise the Apartheid policy in South Africa.

“So, to restore the country’s glory on the world stage, we need competent and principled leadership in the administration,” he said.
