Haze: Schools in Selangor and some states closed on October 21

SHAH ALAM, 20 Oct: All schools in Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur will be closed tomorrow (21 October) following the unhealthy increase in the Air Pollution Index (API) readings at affected areas.

Also closed to similar problems are schools in the district of Kinta Utara, Kinta Selatan, Manjung and Tanjung Malim in Perak, as well as the districts of Kuala Muda and Yan in Kedah.

Schools in the district of Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Serian, Simunjan, Lubok Antu and Samarahan in Sarawak will also be closed tomorrow.

According to the Ministry of Education, the closure involves 1,734,668 students from 2,528.

“The State and District Education Departments, together with the management of schools across the country should continuously monitor API readings issued.

7.2

“In the event of an increase to unhealthy and very unhealthy levels, the parties may close schools, as set by the ministry,” he said.

Meanwhile, all schools in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and schools in Muar, Ledang and Segamat in Johor, Tawau, lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunah in Sabah are open as usual tomorrow.
