SHAH ALAM, MAY 5: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has banned free polystyrene and plastic in its Ramadan bazaars throughout the fasting month.
Its Yang Dipertua, Dato’ Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said the ban is consistent with the enforcement of the State Government’s new policy banning the use those two materials.
“Traders are reminded not to use polystyrene and are not allowed to provide free plastic bags to customers during their transactions at the MPSJ Ramadan bazaar,” he said as reported by Sinar Harian during the Karnival Seminar Bazar Ramadan MPSJ 2017 media session at Dewan Puchong Indah recently.
The State Government had enforced the ruling last January as an initiative to turn Selangor into a low-carbon state in Malaysia.
The new policy also sets a charge of 20 cents for each plastic bag in all supermarkets throughout the state.
In the same development, Nor Hisham said MPSJ has approved 1,291 out of the 1,558 Ramadan bazaar application in its jurisdiction.
However, those who are accepted are required to attend a briefing and seminar session on business rules compliance.
For 2017, MPSJ provides 24 Ramadan bazaars throughout its jurisdiction.
