KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Apr: Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, Nurul Izzah Anwar opposes the statement by Chairman of the Election Commission (EC), Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, who claims that the commission had not received any notification to cancel any dubious electors before filing an appeal to check.

Instead, Izzah revealed a letter signed by the EC Secretary, Datuk Kamaruddin Baria to prove that the commission has received the letter.

In addition, a lawyer’s letter through Messrs Chooi & Company was also received and endorsed by the EC Senior Federal Counsel, Nur Ezdiani Rolen.

“The cancellation of names where the registered address is incomplete or is non-existent is contained in the Draft Register of Electors for Lembah Pantai P121 where all names that we have objected have been informed to the EC.

“We mentioned in the last paragraph to please advise in writing within seven says from the date hereof whether the commission will cancel all names provided with the letter.

“If we do not receive any reply or unacceptable answers, we have been instructed to take legal action against the commission without further notice,” she said at a press conference today.

She also questioned as to why she will not be contacting the EC before filing it in court when she had done the said matter according to the prescribed procedure.

“To me, this statement further destroys any remaining credibility of the EC. Not only do they not take the matter of (the alleged) shadow voters which we have highlighted but they have also made baseless accusations,” she said.

Nurul Izzah who is also the PKR Vice-President had earlier filed an application for a judicial review to cancel more than 4,600 voters whom she claimed to be dubious in the Draft Register of Voters in the Lembah Pantai Parliament.
