Community Farming programme for abandoned agricultural land

SHAH ALAM, AUG 7: Abandoned agricultural land across the state will be utilised via the Community Farming programme, in order to manage the land in a more effective and systematic way.

Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-Based Industries Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said that agricultural land has high potential to provide long-term benefits for the state’s revenue and economy.

“The programme was created to ensure every inch of abandoned land owned by the State, especially in the urban areas, can be developed.

“The programme aims to produce food using modern agricultural technology.

“For example, the concept of fertigation for planting in limited land space such as in the urban areas,” he said.

He was commenting on the State’s continuous initiative in developing agricultural land which has the potential of contributing towards the state’s economic development.

The State Government has been consistent in boosting agricultural activities in the state through various long-term and productive programmes.

This includes the 2016 Budget tabled by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, focusing on agriculture across the state.

As of now, a total of 156 hectares of agricultural land across the state,  including those under the Integrated Agricultural Project, have been developed for several kinds of agricultural crops.

Financial aid and training for youth in agriculture

SHAH ALAM, AUG 2: Youth with interest in agriculture as a career now have the opportunity to receive financial aid not exceeding RM30,000 each.

Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-Based Industries Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said the assistance will be given in the form of equipment to those who have started their projects.

“We want to help them increase their productivity and quality of the produce,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly.

He was replying a question by Batu Tiga Assemblyman Rodziah Ismail regarding support provided for the youth in agriculture.

Zaidy said for the purpose of assisting youth in agriculture, three main programmes have been created, namely, Program Agro Generasi Muda (AGROGEMS), Program Ladang #SmartSelangor and Kebun Komuniti.

“We also organise seminars and provide training courses to those who have not started their project.

“Among these programmes are Fertigation Concept of Planting, Chicken and Goat Breeding for Meat, Salt and Fresh Water Fish Breeding as well as Kelulut Bee Breeding.
