Kampung Sungai Udang fire victims receive aid

SHAH ALAM, JUNE 19: The State Government through its Klang District and Land Office is coordinating help for victims of the recent fire in Kampung Sungai Udang.

Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Exco, Dr Daroyah Alwi said the contribution will be given as soon as possible.

The State Government hopes the victims can be patient and overcome this tribulation,” she said in her visit at the Dewan Serbaguna Teluk Pulai last June 17.

Daroyah who was also accompanied by Selat Klang Assemblyman, Dr Halimah Ali, also gave out basic necessities to the victims.

Last June 15, approximately 50 squatter houses residents in the village were left homeless when their houses were razed in a fire.

A Bomba Senior Officer 1, Kota Raja Fire and Rescue Department, Zul Alim Mahful said, he received the emergency call on the incident at 6.32 in the evening and seven trucks with 33 firemen were dispatched to the scene.

“The fire spread quickly due to the structure of the houses made from wood besides they are close to each other. Bomba took almost one hour to control the fire.

“The fire was fully under control by 7.49 in the evening and 10 houses were destroyed,” he said.

Zul Alim said, there are no casualty and losses and the cause of fire are still being investigated.

Indian women continue to be empowered

SHAH ALAM, SEP 12: A total of 60 Indian women have joined a hair and beauty course for the community in the Sementa constituency.

Through her official website, Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi said the course was jointly organised by the Malaysian Youth Welfare Association, in order to help women in Selangor to acquire useful knowledge.

“Indirectly this course will help women find extra income through hairdressing,” she said in a statement.

Earlier, Daroyah was also present to officiate the new premise for Kapar Women Economic Development Association at the Taman Sungai Kapar Indah, Sementa which was also attended by other leaders and association members.

“With this new premise, hopefully all the programmes to empower women in Kapar can be organised smoothly,” she said.
