14 young diplomats visit Selangor MB

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM

GOMBAK, JUL 26: A total of 14 young diplomats who will be sent for duty abroad spent almost two hours with the Selangor Menteri Besar to get a closer look at the State Government’s management and administration model.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the visit was a positive development and an honour to the Pakatan State Government.

“I was a bit late today but due to a very good reason.  For the first time, Wisma Putra or the Foreign Ministry has allowed diplomats who will be sent abroad, in this case 14 of them, to meet me as Selangor Menteri Besar in order to be briefed and to see for themselves the State Government’s management and administration model.

“I view this as an honour and recognition to the State Government as matters arising in the dialogue session were mostly the government’s policies on citizens’ welfare, maintaining harmony in a multi-racial and multi-religious state as well as the Smart Selangor concept that is driving Selangor towards being an advanced state,” said Mohamed Azmin.

He was speaking earlier today during the Old Water Pipe Replacement Launch Ceremony in Jalan Taman Melawati.  The pipe replacement involves Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

He said Pakatan’s capability in leading Selangor, based on principles of responsibility and transparency, also includes the government’s seriousness in finalising the restructuring of water services in Selangor for a more holistic and total management.

The State Government had also received numerous recognitions and visits from parties within the country and abroad, honouring its achievements since 2008.

Mohamed Azmin had always been known among the media and State Government’s employees for being on time or rather earlier than the scheduled time for any programme that he attends.

MB: I am ‘Selangor Official 1’ not ‘Malaysian Official 1’

BY: NAZLI IBRAHIM

SHAH ALAM, JUL 25: The spontaneous words of Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had the audience laughing at the Freedom of Information Forum at Annex Hall of the Selangor State Assembly building today.

“Why are you looking at me, I’m not ‘Malaysian Official 1’ but I’m ‘Selangor Official 1’,” he said before continuing with his speech at the forum.

Mohamed Azmin said it after he touched on the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) civil suit against the individual named as ‘Malaysian Official 1’ and other individuals close to the Prime Minister including Dato’ Seri Najib Razak’s stepson, Riza Aziz.

His remarks cause the entire forum, which featured several prominent local and foreign panellists, to erupt in laughter.

The phrase ‘Malaysian Official 1’ has become the talk of the town after the DOJ named ‘Malaysian Official 1’ as one of the defendants in the civil suit to forfeit assets worth billions of Ringgit linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.

Although the general population of the country believes that ‘Malaysian Official 1’ is Najib, Umno leaders are still denying it.

RM80 mil allocated for flood mitigation measures

BY: HAFIZAN TAIB

PUCHONG, JUL 19: The Selangor Government has intensified its development programmes to overcome flood issues in the state for the past two years.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the programmes and efforts included the retention ponds managed by the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS).

“We took the initiative two years ago to determine who would be responsible for the retention ponds, whether it would be JPS or the local authorities.

“The State Government decided that JPS needed to manage the ponds and we allocated RM80 million for upgrading and maintenance purposes,” he told the media.

Mohamed Azmin also touched on the occurrence of floods in Shah Alam and Klang recently, saying that JPS has begun work but it would definitely not be completed in such a short time.

“Work, however, has completed in some areas while work in other areas are ongoing.

“Still, we do not want the flooding to repeat because it would disrupt the economy,” he said.

He added that there were more than 300 retention ponds in Selangor and the decision to hand over the management to JPS was made after his appointment as Menteri Besar in 2014.

Selangor Government to retake undeveloped land

BY: HAFIZAN TAIB

PUCHONG, JUL 19: The Selangor Government is ready to retake land approved to the Federal Government in Selangor if there were no plans for development in those areas.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN) discussed the issue at a recent meeting because there were still some areas that were left undeveloped for a long period.

He said that the state government decided to hold a discussion with the Education Ministry through the Selangor State Secretary regarding development plans in those areas.

“We are waiting for feedback from the ministry whether there are any plans and allocation for the development of schools.

“If there are none, we will take the land back,” he said during a media conference after the Taman Puchong Utama ground-breaking ceremony today.

He said this in reply to a media question regarding public complaints that Rumah Selangorku development areas lacked public facilities.

He added that a lot of land was approved to the Federal Government for public development to construct buildings such as primary and secondary schools as well as hospitals and other facilities, but were still undeveloped.

“Some areas have been undeveloped for over 10 years, so we decided that the State Secretary should have a meeting with the ministry to get feedback about the development plans.

“Are there plans to build a school on the approved land because we are concerned that in the past, such land was sold by the Federal Government to the private sector for commercial purposes.

“This is totally against the conditions of the land approval,” he said.

Selangor ahead of Federal Government in implementing rental-purchase scheme

BY: HAFIZAN TAIB

PUCHONG, JUL 19: The implementation of the rental-purchase scheme by the Selangor Government two years ago, puts it well ahead of the Federal Government in efforts to help the middle- and low-income groups to own homes.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the rental-purchase programme is a direct result of the State Government’s rakyat-centric policy and began with the Rimba Jaya Apartments in Shah Alam.

“The State Government allocated RM10 million in 2014 and an additional RM10 million in August last year.

“We have therefore prepared RM20 million to help those in the middle- and low-income categories to own houses through this rent-purchase scheme,” he said to the media after the Taman Puchong Utama Rumah Selangorku ground-breaking ceremony.

Mohamed Azmin said this when comparing Selangor’s efforts with the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s recent suggestion to implement the scheme.

“It remains a suggestion and the cabinet paper is being prepared compared to Selangor where the scheme has been implemented over two years ago,” he said.
