MBSA Smart Selangor Bus recorded over a million passengers

SHAH ALAM, APR 19: The Smart Selangor Bus service in the Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) jurisdiction is receiving encouraging response, recording over 1 million passengers thus far.

MBSA Head of Corporate and Public Relations, Shahrin Ahmad said, the first route has recorded 1.2 million passengers, from July 15, 2015 until last February 28.

He said, the second and third routes which started operation on November 1, 2016 recorded 48,745 and 88,519 passengers respectively.

“Through this service, MBSA hopes to help to reduce the burden for those in need, due to the increasing cost of living.

“At the same time, we can also encourage the use of public transportation and reduce personal vehicles that release carbon monoxide gas.

“This would ultimately support Shah Alam in its aim to achieve low-carbon city status by 2030,” he said to SelangorKini.

The first MBSA Smart Selangor Bus route starts from Shah Alam Commuter Station and passes State Government Secretary’s Building (SUK), Seksyen 6 Market, University of Selangor (UNISEL), Jakel and Shah Alam Hospital.

The second route starts from City Centre Stop, Seksyen 14 and passes Wisma MBSA, Plaza Shah Alam, Shah Alam Aquatic Centre, Lembaga Zakat Selangor, AEON Mall, Giant Supermarket, Shah Alam Polytechnic and Batu 3 Commuter Station.

Meanwhile, the third route also starts from Shah Alam Commuter Station and it passes Commercial Centre 18, Terminal 17, Special Vocational Secondary School, PKNS Flat 24 and Persiaran Jubli Perak.

MBSA-PKNS planted 2,830 trees to green Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM, MAR 6: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) together with Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) had planted 2,830 plants for the ‘Shah Alam Trees For Life 2017’ programme at the Taman Tasik Shah Alam recently.

Shah Alam Mayor, Dato’ Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said, the programme which was held for the second time was to green Shah Alam’s landscape.

“MBSA provided 1,800 saplings for the programme consisting of the ‘kemutu, lantanah, kalifa merah and ati-ati’ trees species.

“Meanwhile, PKNS contributed 1,000 croton trees and 30 agarwood trees costing RM10,500,” he said in a statement.

Zaharin said, the greening programme around the Laman PKNS is seen as a significant effort in view of its green building concept which also received Platinum recognition for the Green Building Index (GBI).

“The programme is also a continuation of PKNS’s efforts to jointly strengthen the greening initiatives after planting over one million trees in 2014 in the Selangor Cyber Valley.

“Therefore, we encourage more participation from corporate and private sectors who wish to carry out their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR),” he said.

At the same time, PKNS is also committed to continue the greening program initiatives in collaboration with other selected institutions besides also being committed to achieve the target of planting 20,000 trees across the corporation development area.

MBSA offers 50% discount on fines

SHAH ALAM, MAR 2: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will implement the Penalty Discount Campaign Series 1/2017 for up to 50% to encourage offenders (OKK) to settle their backlogs.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Head, Shahrin Ahmad said, the campaign will start from March 1 to 31, to help and encourage OKK to settle their outstanding fines before stern action is taken.

“The campaign also consists of discounts for offenses under the MBSA Road Transport Order 2007 which include not displaying parking coupons accordingly and parking at unauthorised spots.

“For the record, MBSA is cooperating with Road Transport Department (JPJ) to blacklist offenders who fail to settle their fines by introducing the I-Blacklist system.

“Hence the public is urged to expedite paying their fines before a more drastic action is taken,” he said in the statement.

Among the fines which are eligible for the discounts are those under the Haircut By-laws 1983, Park By-laws (MBSA) 2005, Vandalism By-laws (MBSA) 2005, Food Establishemnt By-laws (MBSA) 2007 and Food Handling By-laws (MBSA) 2007.

Additionally, offenses under Advertising By-laws (MBSA) 2007, Hawkers By-laws (MBSA) 2007, Road Transport By-laws (MBSA) 2007 and Market By-laws (MBSA) 2007 are also eligible for the discounts.

Shahrin said, the public can make payments at the Main Counter, Wisma MBSA, Persiaran Perbandaran, Seksyen 14, Shah Alam as well as at the Sungai Buloh, Kota Kemuning and Setia Alam Branch Offices.

MBSA also provides ‘Shah Alam On Wheels’ (SAOW) Mobile Office, every Saturday at the specified time, location and date.

MBSA counters open every day in February

SHAH ALAM, FEB 8: The Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) payment counters will be opened on Saturdays and Sundays throughout this February to facilitate the community to pay their assessment tax.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Head, Shah rin Ahmad said, the counters will also be opened on February 9, on the Thaipusam public holiday.

According to him, payment can be made at the Main Counter, Wisma MBSA, Sungai Buloh Branch Office, Kota Kemuning and Setia Alam.

“This gives the opportunity for property owners in the MBSA administration area to pay their assessment tax and conduct other transactions with MBSA, on weekends and public holidays.

He said the counters will be opened from 9am to 1 pm.

At the same time, Shahrin also invites the public to watch the MMBSA Combo performance for free, on February 11, while getting information.

He said, the programme which will be held at Anggerik Mall will start at 5pm.

“This is to introduce the MBSA Combo to visitors who might need their service for entertainment for corporate events and dinner functions,” he said.

Seksyen 17 Bus Terminal to be operational this April

SHAH ALAM, FEB 1: Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) expects the Seksyen 17 Bus Terminal to start operating by next April.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Head, Shahrin Ahmad said, technical support from external agencies will be obtained first after upgrading works are completed this February.

“The upgrading works are expected to be complete by the end of February. After that, technical support from external agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) and several others must be obtained before getting the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC).

“If all goes as planned, the bus terminal will be operational by this April,” he said.

The new bus terminal is equipped with waiting area, public lavatories, surau, food outlets, retail shops, ticket counters, bus and taxi stands.

Regarding the Seksyen 13 Bus Terminal, Sharin said MBSA have no plans yet so far, but is of the view that it might be closed after the relocation on December 15, 2014.

MBSA Car Free Day: Every second Sunday of the month

SHAH ALAM, JAN 13: Shah Alam community will implement car free days, every second Sunday of the month.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Corporate and Public Relations Departmental Head said this is to ensure effective implementation of the programme, which is fully supported by the State Government

He said this programme partly an effort towards making Shah Alam a low-carbon city by 2030.

“We want to produce a Shah Alam population who live a healthy lifestyle by reducing the use of private cars that emit carbon monoxide gas.

“Throughout the programme, the public is only allowed to use bicycles, skate-boards, hover-boards, scooter-blades and walk around the city,” he said.

The Car Free Day, which is a pioneer programme, will be launched on January 22 at Dataran Kemerdekaan with various interesting activities.

These include cycling and walking events, MBSA combo stage show, aerobics, buskers and brass band performances.

Shahrin said MBSA also provide bicycle and roller-blade rental services to attract public participation.

“Shah Alam community will also have the opportunity to buy food at food trucks, athletic gears and attires, green products (Green Eco Product), compost fertilisers and decorative floral and fruit plants,” he said.

MBSA plans more CSR programmes to help society

SHAH ALAM, DEC 14: The Shah Alam Municipal Council (MBSA) is planning to increase its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes involving all races and groups, in an effort to help the less fortunate.

Mayor Dato’ Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said he plans to extend the programme abroad to help poor countries.

“We are now planning to help, for example, the Muslim community in Cambodia.

“However, our focus is to help those in our country first,” he said when met recently

Nevertheless, he said that the plan would depend on the budget available.

According to Zaharin, the MBSA CSR programmes are now leaning more towards volunteer activities.

“Currently, we don’t have a big budget and we organise activities with volunteers, such as tree-planting, gotong-royong and repair works.

“Our focus is to help everyone. If youths need us, we will implement programmes for them,” he said.

At the same time, he said that MBSA will go to Baling, Kedah in the near future for its CSR programme.

Couple who harassed MBSA enforcer charged today

SHAH ALAM, NOV 25: Two individuals who harassed a Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) lady enforcer were arrested and charged at the Shah Alam Court this morning.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the couple will be investigated for obstructing a civil servant from performing her duty as well as sexual harassment.

She also confirmed that the couple was arrested yesterday and charged today under Secton 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to stop a civil servant from performing her duties.

The incident happened that near Restoran Selera Kampung Subang, Sungai Buloh started when the enforcer issued a summons on a car that did not have a parking coupon.

The owner of the car was dissatisfied because she claimed that she already had displayed a parking coupon and an argument ensued.

A woman believed to be the owner of the car then confronted the victim and rudely claimed that she already had a coupon.

The victim informed her that she could not revoke the summons that had been issued and this infuriated the suspect who then called a male friend.

The man was recorded to have shouted at the victim besides threatening to hurt her.

The woman suspect then kept on pulling at the back of the victim’s shirt as the victim tried to get away and the male suspect used his body to hem her in while trying to get a photo of the victim using his mobile phone.

Shah Alam Lake Park to be upgraded

SHAH ALAM, OCT 25: Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is planning to upgrade Shah Alam Lake Park as an attraction and also for the convenience of visitors to the lake.

Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said that MBSA has prepared an allocation to bring new changes, as an initiative to attract more visitors.

“We made a site visit to the lake and are planning to add-on a few new requirements using the budget that we prepared for 2017.

“We also had a discussion with Perbadanan Adat Melayu dan Warisan (PADAT) and Tourism Selangor to get interesting ideas for cultural activities,” he said at Majlis Pelepasan Ikan Sempena Pertandingan Memancing Shah Alam 2016, on October 24.

He also added that it is the MBSA’s responsibility to provide a convenientt place for programmes attracting more tourists to Shah Alam.

“For cultural events and programmes, we can provide materials such as the stage; but for marketing purposes, we will need support from PADAT in providing a dance team..

“Meanwhile, Tourism Selangor has to encourage tourist visits via tourism agencies under Tourism Selangor to attend the events.” he said

MBSA receives Langkawi Award

SHAH ALAM, OCT 25: Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) was chosen to receive the Langkawi Award 2015/2016 for the growth category on October 22.

Corporate Communications Head Shahrin Ahmad said that the selection was based on commitment shown by MBSA in sustaining a green and prosperous environment.

He said, the evaluation takes into consideration the variety of programmes and activities based on green initiatives in making Shah Alam a low carbon city by 2030.

“MBSA has always focused on the concept and initiative of ‘Pembangunan Hijau’ in development.

“It sets out guidelines to improve the quality of a conducive environment by applying green elements in land-use planning, urban design, neighbourhood layout and others,” he said in a statement.

The award was presented by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Haji Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad, at the Kuching Waterfront, Sarawak.

Among programmes that qualified MBSA to receive the award was the Pengenalan Kempen Kitar Semula programme for schools around Shah Alam.

Shahrin said it includes Rubbish Collection Contest, ‘Shah Alam Trees For Life’ Tree-Planting Programme, Used Cooking Oil Collection Programme, Home Waste Segregation Programme, Food Waste to Compost Programme, Neighbourhood Gardens and Cycling Tracks Preparation.

“This award is an honour and will serve as a motivation for all MBSA staff.

“We will carry on giving more efficient services to society, especially the community of Shah Alam,” he said.

‘Shah Alam Trees For Life 2016’ realises garden city concept

SHAH ALAM, AUG 22: As many as 500 trees have been planted around Lembah Bukit SUK recreational park in conjunction with the ‘Shah Alam Trees For Life 2016’ programme.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Corporate Communications and Public Affairs’ Head Shahrin Ahmad said the programme provides a new image, based on the green-shade concept to the Seksyen 5 area.

He said this was also in line with the aim of Shah Alam becoming a garden city.

“Among the trees planted were Filicium Decipens (Japanese fern tree) and Salix Babylonica (weeping willow) as well as fruit trees like the Saipan mango, rambutan and chokanan mango.

“We would also like to inculcate a culture of volunteering in the participants, especially youths,” he said in a statement.

In collaboration with UMW Corporation Sdn Bhd, the programme has 350 participants including 100 UMW staff, non-governmental organisations and MBSA staff.

The corporate social responsibility programme was also joined Deputy Mayor Shukri Mohamad Hamin and Head of Group Management Services UMW Muzafar Munzir.

Shahrin said that UMW has given RM10,000 as a form of support and commitment for the programme.

Japanese students explore Shah Alam’s uniqueness

SHAH ALAM, AUG 22: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has once again received a visit from Japanese students through the Tokoname City Student’s International Exchange Conference Association Program.

Corporate Communications and Public Relations Head Shahrin Ahmad said that eight students from Tokoname were involved in the tour this year beginning from August 15 to 19.

“They were given a briefing and explanation regarding the development of Shah Alam as a progressing city.

“This included activities, functions and MBSA services as well as exciting tourist attractions,” he said to SelangorKini.

The group of students were chaperoned by two teachers from Japan and three teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 9, Shah Alam.

In 2015, MBSA received its first group of Tokoname students via the same program.

Shahrin said MBSA is always open to visits from any agency or department, local or foreign.

“We are prepared to share and exchange views and information regarding MBSA’s services.

“The same goes for improvements that have been implemented, such as 5S Practice and our creative and innovative group,” he said.
