Fishing Competition Harnesses Tourism Activities

SHAH ALAM, 17 Dec: Fishing tournament capable of becoming a tourist attraction in Selangor following the public’s very encouraging response to the activity.

Agricultural Modernisation, Natural Resources Management and Entrepreneur Development Exco, Dr Yaacob Sapari said that the activity is able to spread the economy to small and medium industry owners as well as hotel owners.

“This fishing tournament is a good tourism activity where people come from as far away as Kelantan and Terengganu.

“With the existance of this activity, it will profit owners of Small Medium Enterprises (SME) as well as surrounding hotels that welcome visitors from outside Selangor,” said Dr Yaakob.

He said this when met after presenting prizes to the winners of the Selangor Fishing Grand SLAM GP 2012 held at Taman Tasik Shah Alam. It is organised by the Selangor Government in collaboration with Wak Jali Event Management.

“We will plan better fishing activities next year ad it is understood that in Thailand, fishing activities has become one of the attractions.

“And I saw that fishing activities did not only attract local visitors but is also able to attract international parties,” he said.

About 18,000 participants joined the tournament and it is estimated that five thousand people livened the atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Shamsuddin Kasdi, 51, became the Grand Slam Championship GP Selangor 2012 Champion by acquiring a total of 701 points.

He received a Proton Persona here, which was presented by Dr Yaakob.

“Our family is very happy to win today because this car was the hope and dream of my children who came together (with me) to this competition.

“This achievement was the motivation of the family. This car will be used for my family’s convenience,” he said.
