Kuala Lumpur, 18 JAN: The Chairman of the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC), Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof has been urged to immediately clean up the electoral roll before the upcoming 13th General Elections (GE-13) or be ready to face legal action.
PKR Deputy President, Azmin Ali said that the People’s Uprising Assembly (HKR) which was attended by hundred of thousands of people in the country on 12 January gave a clear message to the EC that the people have the right to receive justice through an electoral system that is transparent and fair.
“The people are entitled to justice because there is a wealth of evidence showing that the transparency of the electoral system in the country is tainted to protect the Umno-BN government to continue to stay in power.
“The Chairman of the EC in Indonesia is currently in jail for cheating the people in the elections and if PR governs Putrajaya, we will do the same for the justice of the people,” he said.
He said this while being a panel member at the Post KL112 Forum titled ‘Impact and Direction of the People’ organised by Pak Sako Academy located at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Kuala Lumpur (KLSCAH) last night.
The forum was attended by over 200 people and was broadcast live by Bangsar Utama Web Radio. Among the other panelists were former student activist, Hishamuddin Rais and famous lyricist Hasmi Hashim.
Azmin added that there is clear evidence of the existence of phantom voters in the electoral roll through the Election Win System (SISMEP) introduced by PKR, however till now the EC remains silent without any action taken.
Recently, when investigations were carried out by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah, several high officials in the Sabah Registration Department (NRD) admitted to providing identification cards to illegal immigrants who did not qualify.
Former Director of NRD Sabah, Ramli Kamarudin and the former chief of Tamparuli NRD, Yakup Damsah admitted to the matter and stayed over at the house of Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin, who was the political secretary to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to issue blue identity cards to foreigners solely for the purpose of the elections.
