SHAH ALAM, 9 Jan: Following incidences of water outage around Ampang and Cheras for the last 10 days, the Cempaka Constituency (DUN) Service Centre has taken the initiative to open an operations room in the area.

Housing, Building and Squatters Management Exco, Iskandar Samad said that the operations room which is located at the Pandan Jaya Community Library functions to help local residents, who are now facing water disruptions, to make reports.

According to him, the staff at the operations room will also be in contact with the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor) to ensure that the affected areas are supplied with sufficient water, whether by tankers or static tanks.

“In a meeting held with Syabas representatives on January 4, I pointed out that the concession company must provide sufficient water to affected areas. They must ensure that static tanks are always filled for the usage of the residents.

“Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) also has water tankers, but the amount is rather limited. My Service Centre will also acquire 10 water pumps to aid residents in apartments. Those who wish to use the facilities of the pump can contact the operations room,” he said in a media statement.

Iskandar added that officers from the Pandan Unit Amal will also be deployed to assist the elderly and those who do not have the ability to haul water.

The public who wish for assistance can contact 010-2637662 (Zahriezan), 019-7598622 (Suhaimi) and 013-2469027 (Hafiz).

About 500,000 people in Gombak, Ampang and Cheras have been facing water supply disruptions for over 10 days when the pump house in Wangsa Maju failed to function because it was not maintained by Syabas.
