KUALA LUMPUR, 28 JAN: The people of the country have been urged to make the death of William Yau Zhen Zhon a lesson so that such incidents do not happen again.

PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that the local community, parents and guardians should be more vigilant and be always ready to ensure that children are safe.

This is especially so in crowded places, playgrounds, shopping centres and so on.

Wan Azizah said this when referring to the tragedy the befell 6-year-old William who was found dead in the Kampung Sungai Sireh Jetty, Port Klang on 24 January after he was missing from his house in Putra Heights, Subang for a week.

“As a mother, I am very disappointed with what has happened in our community,” said Wan Azizah in a media statement.

She added that the country was once saddened by news of the deaths of Nurin Jazlin (2007), Sharlini (2008) and the latest gory death of Dirang who was burned in Johor recently.

“To remember these three events, surely we are enveloped in sadness. Concern for one another is a shared responsibility,” she said.

Wan Azizah said that the police have been urged to prioritise security agendas, especially those involving women and children.

“Domestic violence, human trafficking, kidnapping and murder are activities that need to be observed by (those in the business of) security very seriously and with determination to eradicate (these incidences).

“Let us hold hands together, to work together to be totally involved in community development, especially in protecting children,” she said.
