Khalid Samad: One Umno-BN Built Classroom Costs RM1 Million

SHAH ALAM, 13 FEB: The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat Government has been proved to be more efficient and competent in financial management when they were able to build a school with 24 classrooms as well as a fully equipped hall and laboratories at the cost of RM4.9 million.

This is different from when Umno-BN built a school that has only 12 classrooms at an alleged cost of about RM12 million.

Shah Alam MP, Khalid Samad said that the construction of SJK (T) Ladang Midlands here was built at the cost of RM4.9 million and was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on April 15, last year.

For 50 years, the students at that school had to study in classrooms with wooden boards for walls and cracked cement floors, and they were waiting for assistance to acquire a new building for learning comfort.

The construction of the said school can accommodate about 2,000 students without using a single cent from Federal Government provisions.

“SJK (T) Ladang Midlands can be considered the best and the most modern in the country, maybe even the world, with a big hall and sophisticated laboratories with the RM4.9 million (used).

“Compared to the Primary School to be built in U10 Shah Alam which has 12 classrooms but costs RM12 million. This means that each classroom costs RM1 million,” said Khalid when contacted by TV Selangor.

He added that the RM12 million cost is considered unreasonable and requires further clarification from the parties involved due to the considerably higher cost.

“This proves inefficiency and lack of transparency as well as the possibility of the school construction project was granted through direct negotiations and so on.

“The cost, which is five times more, will not benefit the people,” said Khalid.
