PETALING JAYA, 27 Mar: PKR Vice-President filed a judicial review so that the court will issue a directive for the Election Commission (EC) to cancel dubious voters for the Lembah Pantai region.

The application made to the High Court in Kuala Lumpur yesterday was done after she claimed that there are more than 4,000 dubious voter names in the electoral roll.

Nurul Izzah, who is also the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament made the appeal with Major (Rtd) Kadir Sultan Abd Majid against four respondents.

The respondents are the EC Director General, the Election Commission, the Director General of the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Malaysian Government.

“The existence of the ‘link up system’ agency, a system that connects all the agencies, should prove that there is a way to clean up and update the electoral roll in Malaysia.

“We want a thousand forces, not a thousand excuses. That is the principle we emphasise to the EC,” she said in a press statement today.

She said that the issue of the voter registration list was presented several times to the EC but no action has been taken.

She stressed that the EC should convince the people by ensuring a clean electoral roll for a fair election to be carried out in this country.

She added that in these few years, the number of voters in Lembah Pantai have increased by more than 15,000 compared to 56,000 in 2008.

Nurul Izzah and Kadir Sultan’s counsel, Edmond Bond, explained that the several suspicious issues is the 2011 Lembah Pantai Draft Register of Electors and the Lembah Pantai Additional Register Draft for the second quarter of 2012.

Upon inspection, it was found that there are at least three voters who have died by are still listed. There are also 133 non-resident electors in Lembah Pantai.

Edmond said that the most disturbing this is that there are about 4,637 registered voter’s names with incomplete information such as addresses which are difficult to find.

“The appeal was sent to the EC on 4 March for the cancellation of this list of voters names immediately according to Regulation 15(2)(G) of the Registration of Electors 2002,” he said.

The Regulation allows the Registrar-General of the EC to cancel dubious electors at any time.
