KUALA LUMPUR, June 5: The organisers of the #Black 505 Peaceful Assembly has chosen Padang Merbok as the site of the rally which will be held on June 15.

According to PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, the decision was made after taking into consideration the views of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) of urging for the assembly to not involve Dataran Merdeka.

The assembly is the continuation of assemblies held across the country before this to protest against the results of the recent 13th General Election which was said to be misdirected because of fraud.
“The letter of notification to the owner of Padang Merbok and PDRM will be sent today to meet the requirements of the Peaceful Assembly Act of (notifying) 10 days as asked by PDRM,” said Rafizi in a joint press conference with PKR, PAS and DAP at the PKR headquarters this morning.

According to him, the letter signed by the leaders of the three parties was sent to the Sang Wangi Police Station in Kuala Lumpur and to DBKL, as owners of the field.

According to Rafizi, the assembly will continue to reject fraud and irregularities which happened in the recent 13th General Election and to demand for a reform of the electoral system.

Among the demands of the electoral system reform includes asking for all members of the Election Commission (EC) to resign and appoint new interim members for the EC with the agreement of Pakatan Rakyat, the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH) and other groups of people.

PR also demanded for re-election to be held in areas proven to have been fraudulent, particularly in 30 parliamentary seats that influenced the election results.

While the third demand is for amendment of election laws to stop the EC from conducting border re-delineation, which is happening now, until all new interim members of the EC is re-elected.

“The appointment of the EC members should have the support of two-thirds of the House of Representatives and to meet the demands of BERSIH over the years to ensure that the election is truly fair and clean,” added Rafizi.

Apart from Rafizi, also present at the press conference was Sungai Petani Parliamentarian, Datuk Johari Abdul from PKR, Seremban Parliamentarian, Anthony Loke representing DAP and Batu Buruk Assemblyman, Dr Syed Azman Syed Nawawi from PAS.
