PETALING JAYA, June 19: The recent controversy of the price markdown of Volkswagen and Peugeot care shows that Umno-BN is unable to fulfil its own manifesto which was made during the 13th General Election (GE-13).
PKR De Facto Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today claimed that this does not show Umno-BN’s seriousness in fulfilling their promises to lower car prices by 20 percent over the next five years.
In fact, Anwar claimed that Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration will also fail to reduce the prices of affordable housing by 10 percent over the next year.
Anwar said that until now, Najib’s administration has failed to take any concrete measures to fulfil the promises made in his manifesto.
“Datuk Seri Najib does not have the full legitimacy of the popular vote and he is unable to deliver the most basic economic promises since he was sworn in recently.
“The fact that his administration tried to reduce car prices as promised in the manifesto only shows his administrative inefficiency and disappointments.
“Datuk Seri Najib has also failed to deliver on the promise of adding more appropriate affordable housing for the people.
We will monitor the performance of the BN government on the issue of public housing issues carefully and consider it as a failure if they cannot reduce the average price of middle-class housing by at least 10 percent in the time frame of one year.”
Anwar said this in a press conference which was held here at the PKR headquarters this morning.
Recently, Utusan Malaysia reported that Umno-BN had fulfilled its manifesto promise by reducing the price of cars in stages by 20 to 30 percent by 2017 with the first phase reduction of 0.7 to 11 percent.
Among the car manufacturers that are reportedly involved in the first phase reduction includes Peugeot and Volkswagen.
However, Volkswagen and Peugeot Malaysia has denied the move through their respective official Facebook account.
Volkswagen Malaysia explained that the price of its Gold model has not reduced from RM169,888 to RM157,999, but it was indeed launched at the price of RM157,888.
Peugeot said that the company never announced a new price for the Peugeot 308 as claimed by Utusan Malaysia.
