SHAH ALAM, July 8: The open tender for the construction for the Klang Third Bridge is expected to be released in October this year.

Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said the bridge construction process is now in the third stage of the implementation of the ‘Bill of Quantities’.

“Bill of Quantities” is a document with the details of a construction project to enable the contractor to submit the bid for the project.

He said, previously the State Government held a competition for the design which will be used for the project.

“The first stage if to introduce the place, followed by a competition for the design.

“FARS Consultant won for the design which received the attention of the people,” he said in his speech here at the Selangor State Assembly session today.

The State Government has allocated RM300 million from state reserves to build the 500-metre bridge.

Previously, the Umno-BN Government had promised to build this third bridge in the year 2008 however, they did not fulfil this promise even though a Ground-breaking Ceremony was held.

During the State Assembly session last year, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government would implement the project and recover the cost of the construction from the Federal Government.

The bridge, which will cross the Klang River, is important to road users, especially for Klang residents, so that they do not have to go through unnecessary congestion in the city centre of Klang to go to Kuala Lumpur or Port Klang.
