KUALA LUMPUR, August 23: DAP has set 29 September as the date for the Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election. The re-election will be held in the Klang Valley. Roketkini reports today.

DAP Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng said, the party has also decided that the candidates for the CEC re-election this time is from the same list as the National Congress in 2012.

“At the meeting this time, the decision was unanimous to hold the re-election on 29 September 2013. We will decide on its location later on.

“The candidates in the upcoming CEC re-election are based on the same list as the one from the National Congress last December, except for candidates who voluntarily withdraw.

“This is because there is no controversy regarding the list of candidates and ROS (Registrar of Societies) also stated only a simple re-election is to be held,” he said in a press statement at the DAP National Headquarters yesterday.

Gua Eng, who is also the DAP Member of Parliament for Bagan, stressed that delegates who are suspended or have been fired after the 2012 National Congress are also eligible to take part in the election.

“We have also decided to allow delegates who are suspended or have been fired to take part, but it is up to them to opt-in or not,” he said.

The Chief Minister of Penang also stated that DAP will postpone the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the state convention scheduled to take place between August and December this year to make way for the CEC re-election.

At the same time, he announced that the DAP Whip Chief, Anthony Loke, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Special Congress while the DAP member of Parliament for Serdang, Dr Ong Kian Ming has been appointed as the Election Organising Returning Officer, and an international accounting firm has been appointed to monitor the counting process.

Guan Eng also reiterated that the move to hold the re-election is being done under protest to prevent ROS from banning the party.

“ROS did not want to meet with us at all. It is clearly proven that they are a tool of Umno.

“Even though we have met all their requests and responded on the electoral suspicions accordingly.

Recently, Anthony Loke provided evidence that the CEC election was carried out according to procedures by showing evidence of the attendance records, signatures and notices, however, until now, ROS has not stated the reason as to why DAP needs to hold a re-election,” he said.
