Egypt Tragedy: Mosques and Suraus in Selangor hold Qunut Nazilah

KUALA LUMPUR, August 18: Mosques and Suraus in Selangor have been urged to hold the Qunut Nazilah to pray for the safety and well-being of the Egyptian people who are now facing brutality from the military of their own country.

The Selangor Exco in charge of Islamic Affairs, Sallehen Mukhyi asked all mosques and suraus to hold prayers so that the massacre in Egypt will stop, thus defusing the unrest in the country.

He said that mosque Nazir’s can also set up a fundraiser to be channelled to the Al-Azhar University Alumni before being distributed to the people.

“We are being called to help the Egyptian people claim their rights to a country that is peaceful and has a government which is just to its own people.

“The killings committed by the Egyptian army has led to many losing a place to depend on, husbands, children, mothers and so on,” he told TVSelangor.

The Qunut Nazilah is usually read when Muslims are faced with disasters or calamities such as war, epidemics, drought and so on. It can be read each time during the five daily prayers.

Sellehen are among the Pakatan Rakyat leaders who attended the Premier Munajat Assembly for Egypt at Padang Merbok which was attended by about 5,000 people.

Prayers of well-wishes, funeral prayers and speeches by Pakatan leaders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were among the programmes held at the assembly.

Also among the attendance were the PAS President, Datuk Seri Hadi Awang; the PAS Vice-President, Mohamad Sabu; the Assemblyman for Kampung Tunku, Lau Wang San and Member of Parliament for Kota Raja, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

The assembly was also participated by 25 NGOs including the Tamil Foundation, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) and Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram).

The Chinese Assembly Halls and Chinese Organisations from several states, including the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCH), Negeri Sembilan (NSCAH), the Penang Chinese Town Hall (PGCTH), were also present.
