CM Congratulates Team on Defending the Sultan of Selangor Cup

SHAH ALAM, 29 Sept: The Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, congratulated the Selangor football squad from defending the 12th Sultan of Selangor Cup after defeating Singapore 3-2 at the Shah Alam Stadium last night.

“Congratulations to the Selangor football team for defeating Singapore in the Sultan of Selangor Cup!” he said through his facebook page last night.

Abdul Khalid accompanied DYMM the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who consented to watch the match which featured the two traditional rivals of the Malaysian League some time ago.

In last year’s edition, Selangor re-claimed the trophy with a 3-1 win after defeating Singapore after three-consecutive years of drought.

The team, coached by P Maniam, emerged champions with two goals from import striker Francis Forkey Doe and and one from the import defensive player, Adam Griffith.

Despite struggling with the issue of the resignation of the head coach, Irfan Bakti Abu Salim, the Read and Yellow team played superbly to not disappoint over 50,000 spectators who were in attendance that night.

Team of 11 consisted of Asharuddin Putra Omar, Norazlan Razali, Mohd Amri Yahya, Mahali Jasuli, Adam Griffith, Forkey Doe, S.Kunalan, K.Gurusamy, Mohd nashriq Baharom, Mohd Fitri Shazwan and S.Veenod.

The Selangor team took home the trophy and a cash prize of RM50,000 which was presented by the Sultan after the game.

That night, local football fans were also treated to a game between the Selangor Veterans team and the Singapore Veterans team. Singapore Veterans won 1-0.
