SHAH ALAM SEPT 1st: After 15 years of harvesting rainwater, 33-year old Aso Subramaniam can finally heave a sigh of relief after an intervention by the People’s Coalition representative solved the problem that had been plaguing his family.

Within just 24 hours, the coordinator for the Bukit Melawati State Legislative Assembly , S. Manikavasagam, successfully obtained Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) to distribute water supply to Subramaniam’s home, a problem that was supposed to have been solved by representatives of the other party 15 years ago.

“I am very grateful to Manikavasagam’s effort. I think my family and I can only look forward to a better life now that we no longer have to collect rainwater,” said Subramaniam.

Previously, TV Selangor reported that Subramaniam and his family, who have been residing in Kampung Baru Pasir Penampang, still lack basic necessities despite having lived in 56 years of post-Independence Malaysia.

Subramaniam reportedly had been requesting for help from the Office of Member of Parliament for Tanjung Karang and the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN), but to no avail.

It was revealed that Subramaniam was promised with electricity and water supplies if he casted his votes for a particular party. However, the promise never materialised until the intervention of the People’s Coalition representatives.

Meanwhile, Manikavasagam said the water supply installations by Syabas’ contractors had cost RM1,000 – a charge which Manikavasagam would bear himself.

Apart from water supplies, Manikavasagam will also put forward a request for electricity to be installed at the house, in which Subramaniam and his wife and five children are living, as soon as possible.

Additionally, Manikavasagam will also assist Subramaniam in claiming his ownership of the property site which still bears a Temporary Occupation License (TOL) status via the Grant Giving Scheme introduced by the Selangor State Government.

“The condition of this scheme requires the settler to have lived over 10 years in the property. Clearly, Subramaniam is eligible as he has been living here for over 15 years,” said Mankivasagam.
