SHAH ALAM, 16 SEPT: Because of RM1, an ordinary citizen was hauled to court, but it it involves corruption of billions of Ringgit for an Umno-BN leader, the person might escape punishment.

PKR Wanita Chief, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said that the double standard punishment between the the public and Umno-BN leaders should not happen because the law should be implemented fairly.

“We have reproved the government many times because poor and struggling people are sentenced severely compared to Umno-BN leaders who are involved in huge corruption cases by given a light sentence.

“There have been too many cases like this and struggling people are not defended because they have no money to engage counsel.

“This needs to be rectified because it is illogical to be sentenced 10 years because of only RM1 while billions are sentenced to two years,” she said, apparently referring to the corruption case against Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

She was commenting on a newspaper report today on a case of a man who is facing 10 years in jail on charges of stealing RM1 on 10 September in Kelantan.

Speaking to TV Selangor, Zuraida recommended for the legal team in Pakatan Rakyat to fight for the case to uphold justice for the people.
