PR is Not the Mind Behind TURUN Rally

PETALING JAYA, December 26th: Lower Cost of Living Movement (TURUN) Rally to be held on December 31st is not helmed by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as claimed by some.

Pandan MP Rafizis Ramli said the rally was not at all mentioned in the discussion of the Central People’s Justice Party (PKR) at the meeting last week.

Rafizis said he did not view the assembly as a political move as characterized by certain quarters.

“I do not think it’s a problem if people want to celebrate the new year and at the same time express their dissatisfaction with rising prices.”

“It is fair for them to protest the hike because the issue is currently the number one issue in our country,” he said in a press conference at PKR headquarters here today.

Rafizis said that it has become a common occurrence for the people to express their dissatisfaction with a government that continues to pressure them.

“If the people want to celebrate the new year and express their dissatisfaction simultaneously, that is their right.”

“If at some later time, some of them behave in a way that their actions violate the law, then take action using proper reasons and as justification for political reasons,” he said.

Yesterday, TURUN’s leader Azan Safar said that the assembly will continue to mark the ‘2014 Year of the People’s Suffering’ campaign at Dataran Merdeka on December 31st.

Azan was released after 20 hours of detention following allegations of ‘rare coop’ for their alleged involvement in an attempt to overthrow the government.
