“Low cost housing will not be ignored, with its construction continued to safeguard the welfare of the less fortunate,” said Abdul Khalid.

He said this at the first ‘Selangorku Homes’ Ground-breaking Ceremony at Taman Ukay Indah, Sungai Sering.

Abdul Khalid said that ‘One Family, One Home’ concept is so that the people can own their own homes as the market price offered burdens the less fortunate.

He said that Eco World Development Sdn Bhd has been appointed to monitor the project, as well as working together with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), which will ensure the safety of the slopes in the construction site.

The first Affordable Homes development project will be built on land owned by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) in an area of 5 acres.

Construction work is expected to begin within six months after receiving the development approval and the appointment of contractors is completed.

Nearly 2,400 housing units will be built in this pilot project with a total area of 900 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft, by using the prefabricated method (IBS).

“If this is successfully done, home buyers will know the value and price of the houses purchased and the state government will sell it at the cost price instead of a rate to obtain profit,” said Abdul Khalid.

He said that the priority will be to those who have yet to own a home, newly married couples, those with many children and have a household of RM3,000 to RM8,000.

Abdul Khalid earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with the CEO of Eco World Development Sdn Bhd, Datuk Chang Khim Wah, and the LPHS Executive Director, Norazaton Aini Mohd Kassim.

“The State Government is not only allocating land for this conceptual project, but the working capital expected to e RM100 million will be used in the construction process.

“To determine the course of this project, we have asked Eco World to act as the project monitor transparently,” said Abdul Khalid.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Eco World Development, Datuk Chang Khim Wah, expects this project to be completed in five years through three construction phases.
