Taib Resignation as Chief Minister of Sarawak Confirmed

SHAH ALAM, 8 Feb: The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, will step down from his position and make an announcement regarding the matter in “two days”.

His resignation was informed by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) Permanent Chairman, Datuk Mohamad Asifia Awang Nassar, after a five-hour meeting with the party’s Supreme Council today, quoted from Astroawani.com.

According to Mohamad Asfia, the meeting gave full mandate to Abdul Taib to nominate his successor.

Being honoured for Abdul Taib’s efforts and contributions to Sarawak, the meeting also proposed for him to be appointed as the Yang Dipertua of Sarawak, replacing Tun Salahuddin Abang Barieng, whose position will be ending on 28 February.

Abdul Taib was the Chief Minister of Sarawak since 1981.
