Kajang By-Election: Dubious that Early Voters Increased From 300 to 1187

KAJANG, 18 Mar: The sharp increase in early voters for the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN), from 300 voters to 1187 voters, since the 13th General Election (GE13) is dubious.

The candidate for the by-election, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said that what is more dubious was when the Election Commission (EC) did not allow monitoring to be done by competing parties when the early votes are cast.

“There is a sharp increase. This is very dubious. Typically, early voters are inclined towards Barisan Nasional (BN) because there is no supervision.

“After casting the ballots, before counting, there is no supervision from our representatives, only from the EC and the police,” said Dr Wan Azizah when met by Selangor Kini here at Sungai Kantan today.

Meanwhile, the PKR Operation Unit 1 Chief for the Kajang by-election, Yahya Shari, told Selangor Kini that the increase happened after the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) College at Jalan Cheras was included into the Kajang constituency in the previous delineation.

The re-delineation previously performed by the EC is often a hot issue disputed by the leaders of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) following allegations that it benefits BN.

Tomorrow, 19 March, is the voting day for early voters for the Kajang DUN by-election.

A total of 1187 early voters are expected to cast their ballots at three polling stations opened by the EC.
