KAJANG, 21 Mar: The Coordinator of the Selangor Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM), Mohd Ariff Mat Nasir, was called to the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) to help in investigations on a police report made by him on 19 March.

The police report was on the speech transcript of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, tan Sri Joseph Kurup, who produced a racist speech by asking Chinese voters to vote the candidate of the same race in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election on 23 March.

The speech was delivered at a ‘Love the Community’ event, using funds from the Department of National Unity and National Integration, for the purpose of the election campaign.

The Chairman of SAMM, Badrul Hisham Shahrin, who accompanied Mohd Ariff, said that the Kajang by-election clearly highlights Barisan Nasional’s (BN) attitude of continuing to practice racial politics.

“The transcript clearly stated the word several times, asking the Chinese community vote a candidate from their community and not vote a Malay.

“The Kajang by-election once again has highlighted BN’s racism by dividing the people and divide and conquer policies.

“Their strategy is by campaigning in Chinese areas, using the C4C slogan which means ‘Chinese for Chinese’ and in Malay areas, they say that PKR and Pakatan Rakyat are liberal, anti-Malay and so on,” he said during a brief press conference outside the entrance of the Kajang IPD today.

He said that this violated the Elections Act and the police should also call the minister involved to give his statement.

At the same time, preparations for the Reformation Assembly 2.0 will take place at the Kajang Stadium are progressing well and hopefully, many supporters will be present tonight.

He said that the secretariat at the main operations room has informed the police and it is hoped that no problem will come up in the organising of the programme.
