Wan Azizah Rides a Motorcycle to Kajang By-Election Nomination Centre

KAJANG: The traffic situation heading to the Kajang by-election Nomination Centre at the Kajang Municipal Council Sports Complex (MPKj) in Bandar Baru Bangi has been congested as early as 6.30am today.

Selangor Kini found that the congestion began at the North South Highway toll.

Many were stuck and arrived at the destination late, including the group of the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, not to mention that the congestion became worse around three kilometres from the nomination centre.

The congestion also caused the PKR candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, to ride on a motorcycle to reach the Nomination Centre on time.

Based on the situation, the presence of supporters, especially from Pakatan Rakyat, who gathered at the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) building was beyond expectations.

The Kajang N25 State Legislative Assembly by-election would be witnessing a one-on-one clash between Dr Wan Azizah and Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun from BN of there was no independent candidate contesting.

The BN candidate from MCA, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, entered the MPKj Sports Complex Hall at 8.50am, accompanied by other BN leaders.

Among the BN leaders seen was the Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin.

The PKR candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, accompanied by top leaders of Pakatan Rakyat, entered the hall at 9.00am.

Among the PR leaders seen was the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for Gombak, Mohamed Azmin Ali, the Member of Parliament for Pokok Sena, Mahfuz Omar, and the PAS Deputy President, Sallehuddin Ayub.

Up to 9.15am, both candidates from PKR and BN were at the candidate nomination registration desk.

Until now, no independent candidate registered for the by-election this time.

Exactly at 9.30am, as soon as the nomination matters were completed, Wan Azizah, who was accompanied by her proposers and supporters, managed to pray from victory in this by-election.

The EC is expected to announce the official nomination as soon as the nomination period ends.

Nominations will be closed at 10.00am.
