CM: Water Rationing Plan to Stop Simultaneously Tomorrow

SHAH ALAM, 30 Apr: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, today announced that the scheduled water distribution or water rationing, which was implemented since February, will be stopped simultaneously in all affected areas from tomorrow.

He said that all areas affected by the water rationing will receive water supply as usual starting Thursday, or latest by Friday for areas with low pressure.

He said that the decision was made with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) and concession companies at the Selangor State Water Supply Water Rationing Plan meeting on Monday.

“The State Government has informed this decision to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SYABAS) to be complied with and ensure that consumers receive supply as normal.

“The State Government if of the opinion that we do not have to wait for the dam to reach 50 percent capacity because we believe that the hard work done, like pumping water from pools and continuous rain in water catchment areas, will increase the water level at dams,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Executive Council Meeting at the State Government Secretary (SUK) Building, which was also attended by State Executive Councillors, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Sallehin Mukhyi.

The scheduled water distribution system began in February in some areas in Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

At the same time, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government or parties involved, such as LUAS, SPAN and DID, will continue to monitor the progress of water supply.

“The monitoring is to ensure that the water levels at dams continue to increase and the decision to stop the water rationing will be reviewed from time to time,” he said.
