Criminals do not fear the existing law

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 May: Various parties, especially Umno, as the national government, should seek a more holistic solution involving criminal cases and to not merely be shocked by the rape incident involving 38 men in Ketereh, Kelantan.

The PAS Vice-President, Datuk Ustaz Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said that the incident proves that criminals are not afraid or discouraged by the existing legal system.

“The effectiveness of the existing legal system has becoming increasingly doubtful when the crime rate in the country has not stopped rising,” he said, quoted from Harakah Daily.

He said that rape cases, sexual abuse, abandoning babies, child abuse, increase in drug and alcohol addiction among teenagers is something that should be brought to everyone’s attention.

“The case of the two students raped by 38 men in Ketereh, Kelantan, shocked many. This unfortunate incident that befell these students should open the eyes of the nation’s leaders, in particular, and the people to see the terrible state of the society today.

“People are now regarding the crime of rape, drugs, murder, theft and snatch theft as regular current news.

“In fact, if the incident in Ketereh only involved a teenage boy raping a teenage girl, the people would not find the incident strange,” he said.

He said that Allah revealed a legal system to save religion, intellect, property, honour and offspring and descendants.

He said that the Islamic legal system should be implemented to save society from criminals.

He said that the incident in Ketereh, despite suspects not being judged according to Hudud law, because the Islamic legal system is not enforced due to many doubts, they can be prosecuted under Tazir legislation.

“Tazir law can be stricter than Hudud if the court sees the need to impose a tougher sentence,” he said.
