Global Indian Festival gathers local and international traders

SHAH ALAM, 28 May: The Global Indian Festival organised by the Malaysia-India Chamber of Commerce (Maicom) provides an opportunity for the public to shop for various Indian cultural items brought specially from around country and is taking place at the Shah Alam Stadium from May 23 to June 1.

The festival which provides 150 units of shop space to merchants, local and international traders is showcasing a variety of modern and traditional items such as handicrafts, textiles, wedding accessories, make-up, home decorative items and Indian sweets.

The Deputy President of Maicom, DP Ganaa, said that the event is able to attract people apart from the Indian community, like the Chinese, Malays and foreign tourists, so that they can better know, understand and appreciate Indian culture.

He said that the festival is not specialised to the buying culture, but visitors are also able to enjoy exciting performances.

“Our objective is to ensure that buyers have fun with their families when visiting and based on previous experience, we are certain that this festival will be well received.

“Apart from shopping, we have also arranged a variety of exciting activities, including fashion shows, game events and stage performances,” he said yesterday at the Global Indian Festival Opening Ceremony at the Bazarena Site.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Executive Councillor in charge of Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government, V.Ganabatirau.

The festival will tour other states; Penang from 27 June to 6 July, Perak (25 July to 3 August) and the Sungai Petani Village Mall in Kedah (28 to 31 August).
