Khalid in close competition with Azmin, difference of only 853 votes

SHAH ALAM, 14 May: The contest for the position of Deputy President for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) 2014 is getting hotter as Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim closed the gap between him and the leader, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

According to sources, Abdul Khalid received 9,582 votes, 853 votes less than Azmin, who received 10,435 votes, while the third candidate, Saifuddin Nasution, received 6,586 votes.

The unofficial results are based on the total number of votes and the three branches in Selangor that have had no problems or were cancelled.

“This is the results for branches with no problems. Clean results. Confirmed,” the source told Selangor Kini today.

The three branches are Puchong (Abdul Khalid, 861; Azmin, 22; Saifuddin, 20), Serdang (Abdul Khalid, 248; Azmin, 31; Saifuddin, 27) and Petaling Jaya Utara (Khalid, 479; Azmin, 384; Saifuddin, 11).

The total votes for the three of them would be 588 votes for Abdul Khalid, Azmin (437 votes) and Saifuddin (58 votes).

The results thus indicate the strong influence the Selangor Chief Minister has, which is said to be close to the hearts of PKR grassroot members in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

However, this is contrary to the report by Astro Awani, which claims that Azmin has received over 15,000 votes, far ahead of Abdul Khalid, and this is believed to be the results that take into account the branches that are problematic.

If the pattern of support for branches, where results have yet to be obtained or polling has been postponed, is the same as the three branches, Abdul Khalid is expected to overtake Azmin.

In the contest for PKR Wanita Chief, another source said that the incumbent, Zuraida Kamaruddin, has overtaken her opponent, Rodziah Ismail, with a difference of less than 100 votes.

Rodziah managed to close the gap between her and Zuraida because it is believed that it is the result of sentiments with grassroot members in Selangor.

The three-cornered fight for Keadilan Youth Chief (AMK) saw Amiruddin Shaari receiving 2,433 votes, followed by Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (2,275 votes) and Nazree Yunus (1,494 votes).

At this point, the results of nine branches in Selangor are still not known.

On May 11, the election at 10 branches in Selangor was cancelled, bringing the total to 27 branches that have to re-vote at a date yet to be determined.
