Najib Receives False Study, Free Water Policy Not Cause of Ration

BESTARI JAYA, 5 May: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the allegations by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, regarding the water shortage in the state, were not studied properly.

Abdul Khalid said that the free water policy adopted by the State Government and the refusal to increase water tariffs are not the cause of the water shortage in the state.

He said that the problem occurred due to the low amount of rainfall received in dam areas recently.

“I think that the person that gave the survey to Najib did not study it properly. The water shortage has nothing to do with the water tariff or the giving of free water.

“It is because the dams did not receive adequate rainfall,” he said when met at the Land Grant Presentation Ceremony to settlers of Kampung Sungai Darah yesterday.

Abdul Khalid said that the current frequency of rainfall is able to accommodate the shortage of raw water at the Sungai Selangor Dam which supplied 60 percent of water to residents in the Klang Valley.

“Insya Allah, now is the rainy season and we hope that the Sungai Selangor dam will always be full and will not bring up the problem of raw water, like what happened recently,” he said.

Yesterday, the media reported Najib alleging that the provision of free water and the refusal of the State Government to increase the water tariff caused the water rationing in the state to happen for two months.
