Selangor Government expresses condolences over Sultan of Perak’s passing

SHAH ALAM, 28 May: The Selangor Government and all the people of the state express condolences over the passing of Duli Yang Maha Mulia (DYMM) Paduka Seri Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah, at about 1.30 this afternoon.

Condolences were conveyed by the Selangor Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, through the Twitter and Facebook social networking sites.

Apart from Abdul Khalid, the Member of Parliament for Pandan, Rafizi Ramli, also extended his condolences to the family of the late Sultan of Perak through his Twitter status.

“Al-Fatihah to the late Sultan of Perak, Tuanku Azlan Shah, who just passed away. Throughout my days at the Kuala Kangsar Malay College (MCKK), the late Sultan visited (MCKK) four times and I managed to meet him.

“As a sign of mourning, the Selangor Government will fly the state flag at half-mast from today to the day of the funeral,” he said.

The late Sultan, who was also the 34th Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan, breathed his last breath at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.

At his passing, the Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Bainun, and the Sultan’s son, the Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, were at his side.

The Chief Minister of Perak, Datuk Seri Dr Zambery Abdul Kadir, announced the news of the Sultan’s passing and the entire state is in mourning.

During the period of mourning, the Perak state flag will be flown at half-mast for 100 days, while the Malaysian flag will be flown at half-mast during the mourning period of seven days.

The late Sultan will be buried at the Kuala Kangsar Royal Mausoleum after the Asr prayer tomorrow (May 29).
