‘Citizen Journalists’ to improve quality of information, latest local sharing programme

SHAH ALAM, 17 June: The official mouthpiece of the Selangor Government, Selangor Kini, will now include a special column titled ‘Citizen Journalists’.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the column will provide space to local media activists to work on a voluntary basis to upload activities or programmes in their areas.

He said that the special column can also be used by representatives of the people to share programmes carried out in their respective service centres.

“Every week the Selangor Kini newspaper is distributed to every constituency, and TVSelangor, through selangorku.com, has been operating for a long time.

“Some new things have started, including the plan to create the ‘Citizen Journalist’, which is a special column for news reports in a certain area and I hope that Assemblymen will use this opportunity,” he said during the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session today.

Earlier, Zaidy Abdul Talib (PAS-Templer Park) asked a question regarding the State Government’s plan to improve information on policies and programmes for the people.

Replying a supplementary question from Ng Suee Lim (DAM-Sekinchan), Abdul Khalid also informed that the Selangor Times newspaper will be published again in the near future.

“We have expected that question from Sekinchan. Everything is in the tender process and has been selected. The allocation cost is RM1 million and we will announce when the newspaper is to be released,” he said.
