Special committee to identify abandoned land

SHAH ALAM, 16 June: The State Government will acquire and seize control of land that is not managed properly.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the move is to ensure that owners are given the right to be responsible, as enshrined in the right of possession.

He said that studies have found that abandoned land in Selangor is closely related to the payment of taxes by owners.

“We have some owners who have not paid taxes for up to ten years and the land is not taken care of and abandoned.

“So, we will begin acquiring and seizing because this way, owners will decide whether to let go or to use the land, as in the agreement,” he said during the Selangor State Assembly session today.

Earlier, he was asked by Yaakob Sapari (PKR-Kota Anggerik) regarding the State Government’s plans to develop vacant land in Selangor.

Elaborating, Abdul Khalid (PKR-Port Klang) said that the State Government has also set up a special committee through the Selangor Land and Mines Office to identify abandoned land.

“We will start studies on state-owned land that has been said to have not been managed and taken care of.

“Although in principle we already have enough information, but there may have been areas not monitored closely,” he said.
