250 residents of Port Klang receive Raya coupons

KLANG, 10 July: A total of 250 residents in the area of the Port Klang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) received Raya coupons worth RM100 each in conjunction with the Jom Shopping Raya (Let’s Go Raya Shopping) programme organised by the Selangor Government.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the donation is aimed at easing the burden of recipients to make preparations for the Aidilfitri celebration, in addition to being able to perform fasting in a more cheerful and perfect manner.

He said that the State Government has set for a total of 500 coupons to be distributed to recipients who are eligible in the constituency, however only some attended to receive the coupons.

“Meanwhile, my office will send a letter the remaining recipients, especially from remote villages like Pulau Indah and Teluk Gong, I am clarifying this matter because I fear that some recipients would be upset for not being listed today (yesterday).

“This contribution is among the motivation and moral encouragement by the Selangor Government towards the spiritual and physical development of the people of Selangor,” he said at the Iftar and presentation of the Jom Shopping coupons at the Ar-Rahman Mosque in Pandamaran Jaya yesterday.

“The tradition of returning state revenue to the people is being continued when the Selangor Government allocated RM2.8 million for this time’s Jom Shopping Raya programme.

Just like last year, the programme is targeted to alleviate the burden of senior citizens and the less fortunate in making preparations to celebrate Hari Raya.

Apart from the Jom Shopping Raha, other programmes carried out include the Chinese New Year Jom Shopping programme and the Jom Shopping Deepavali programme.

At the same time, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government’s efforts since 2008 have certainly provided various assistance to alleviate the income and ease the cost of living of people from various walks of life in the state.

He said that over 20 programmes, schemes and incentives for the benefit of the people of Selangor are currently being implemented through the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) policy.

“A total of RM1.5 billion has been spent for the success of MES programmes, where recipients have now exceeded three million people. The MES policy is for people from all walks of life and most of this assistance we give to qualified recipients every month,” he said.
