Failed promise of racial harmony, Najib should emulate Azhar’s action

SHAH ALAM, 21 Aug: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has been urged to emulate the move of the Chief Executive Officer of MRT Corp, Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid, who resigned following the recent accident at the construction site which claimed the lives of three foreign workers.

The Member of Parliament for Segambut, Lim Lip Eng, said that the recommendation should be taken by Najib following the crisis and tragedies that have hit the country recently under his administration.

He said that Najib had also failed to control public gatherings that have caused riots and racist statements, and in fact, Najib and his cabinet failed to control negative sentiments especially when the country is celebrating its 57th year of independence.

“Najib failed the promise of racial harmony when the country is approaching its 57th year of independence in a few days and he has not shown any sign of guilt or responsibility for the failure.

“He also seems to be casually agreeing with racist statements, including the ‘balik Tongsan’ (return to Tongsan) statement by the same people who led the riot at the DAP headquarters.

“Najib and his administration should emulate the move of the Chief Executive Officer of MRT Corp, Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid, who resigned,” he said in a press statement.

On August 18, the former Prime Minster, Tun Dr Mahathir, made a statement withdrawing his support and criticising Najib Razak’s government because his performance is worse than his predecessor, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

On his blog, Mahathir teased Najib with the analogy ‘Datuk-datuk’ who gave wrong advice to the ‘king’ just to please the boss.

Commenting on the criticism, Lim Eng said that praises for Najib’s approach in handling the MH17 tragedy, which was supposedly better than the US President, Barack Obama, and the President of Russia, Valdimir Putin, by the former acting Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, cannot be the measure of his performance when he clearly failed at many other things.

“He has clearly failed in many other things. Events in the country has been failed to be addressed, including the invasion and kidnapping incidents that continue to occur repeatedly in Sabah,” he said.

Prior to this, Pakatan Rakyat has repeatedly exposed misconduct, waste and irregularities in governance involving Najib’s administration each time the budget is presented.
